Dentist Rewards Vigilant Tooth-brusher

January 27th 2012 -

Dr. William Kent of Springfield, MO, a practicing dentist uptown, is constantly annoyed with reminding people to brush and floss regularly. I think it’s why dentists supposedly have such a high rate of depression, or suicide, or whatever it is, Kent told us. That’s why I’m putting out my personal health discounts program. Kent compares his patients’ records each visit (every six months) with their current dental health. If they’ve made what he deems an improvement – that is, if it looks like they’ve been brushing religiously – he’ll give them $50 health discounts on their bill and they can walk out with a spring in their step. The specifics on what qualifies your teeth as ‘cared for’ remain unclear. Kent hopes this will encourage a dedicated approach to taking care of one’s gums and teeth. It seems to have encouraged business through publicity, Dr. Kent says, but unfortunately, he doesn’t expect most of his patients will relinquish the same, frustratingly blasé attitude toward dental care.
